NEXT BOARD OF EDUCATION MEETING
March 25, 2010 - 7:00 P.M. - SCHOOL MEDIA CENTER
Welcome Message from Dr. David Sklarz, Superintendent Welcome to the Marlborough School District web site and a journey to learn more about our school and the programs, services and instructional practices that have defined the Marlborough School District and its distinction as the Connecticut Elementary School of the Year in 2009. What truly distinguishes great schools from good schools and schools of excellence from all other schools is the people who make up the school and the broader school community. If you ask our parents what is the most impressive quality of our school, without exception you would hear the consistent response - "the teachers". If you were to ask our teachers what is the most highly regarded aspect of our school they would say in unison, "the parents and an incredibly supportive community". A sense of family and belonging permeate throughout the school. The often-quoted African proverb, "It takes an entire village to educate a child" is not just words here but a way of life that defines the school culture, its values and beliefs. Families move here for the school and all that it offers: small class sizes that are the envy of surrounding districts, an academic program that has high expectations for ALL children and support services second to none to ensure that all children will achieve those high expectations. A school where academics are the foundation upon which a world class education is built and one that is mindful of the need for a second language and where technology better prepares children for that world. A school where children develop a love for the arts with an incredible music and art program along with an appreciation for their own musical and art talents as well as those of others. A school where a young child can tell you the difference between a Monet and a Manet painting, perform on stage as musicians and vocalists and appreciate the fine and performing arts at such a young age. A school where children learn the importance of physical fitness, practice respect and responsibility and where healthy bodies and minds are nourished in the classroom, on the playground and with healthy foods for lunch. At this school, educating the whole child is a promise to every child and every family. Yes, this is an extraordinary place for children. The web site tells only a part of the story of our amazing school, where the vision statement proclaims loudly in words and actions that "Our vision is to inspire wonder, awe and curiosity and to motivate young minds to embrace learning". Visit the web site - but if you want to see a school where children have wonder, awe, curiosity and have embraced learning, come visit the school and see first hand. You, too, will be awed. Thank you for looking in on our web site. I hope you enjoyed this short journey and will want to see and learn more about us.
